Featured books on the home page

The shop wants a hand-picked shelf on the home page that the content team controls by ticking a box on each book, without anyone touching the theme.

The list

In the app this list is called Featured books.

What it says

Take every Book. Keep the ones where Featured is true. Sort them by Title, A to Z. Keep the first 8.

On the storefront

The home page loops over shop.metafields.lists.featured-books.value and renders each entry with the theme’s own book card. Untick a book in the admin and it is gone from the shelf within seconds; tick a ninth and the one that falls outside the first eight by title drops off.

In your store

Any type with a boolean field works the same way: recipes marked chef’s choice, stockists marked flagship, FAQs marked show on the home page. If the type has no flag yet, add one; a single boolean field is the cheapest editorial control there is.
